Gori, the rare white estuarine crocodile of Dangmal, is found nowhere else in the country.
Among the thousands of crocodiles in Bhitarkanika, one is unmistakable. Gori, a rare leucistic white crocodile, lives in a protected pond at the Dangmal research and breeding centre.
Because of her colour she would be highly vulnerable in the wild, so the forest department keeps her in a safe enclosure where visitors can see her at close quarters.
A stop at Dangmal usually combines Gori’s pond with the crocodile hatchery, the mangrove interpretation centre and a short walk along the forest boardwalk.
